This is an intermediate class to our Basic Fundamentals
that includes preparation for the Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) taught by an AKC Approved Evaluator.
Join us in our Beyond Basic Fundamentals class as we continue working on what your dog may already know, sharpen and strengthen up those skills, and add some new things to increase your dog's enthusiasm to learn.
Each week we will play a game for some fun and you and your dog will work together as a team which strengthens the trust and bond in your relationship.
All dogs taking Beyond Basic Fundamentals will learn the following
10 steps of the CGC test:
1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting
3. Appearance and grooming
4. Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
5. Walking through a crowd
6. Sit and down on command and staying in place
7. Coming when called
8. Reaction to another dog
9. Reaction to distraction
10. Supervised separation
Your dog will become a well-behaved member of your family as well as to the community. It will also provide an excellent foundation for all other future training.
On the last day of class, you and your dog will receive a Paws Plus You graduation certificate.
Canine Good Citizen Preparation.....
If working toward your Canine Good Citizen’s test is one of your goals, our Beyond Basic Fundamentals class will head you in that direction.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) created the CGC program in 1989 to stress responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. This exciting AKC kennel club program is open to all levels of experience, whether you are a new owner or a long-time owner. Dogs do not need to register with the AKC to pass the test, nor do they need to be purebred. If you wish to give your dog an AKC CGC Title, you must register them with the AKC as a requirement of this title is to have a registration number.
After the completion of Beyond Basic Fundamental, pet parents will have the option of taking the 10-step CGC test for an additional fee. The testing will be on a separate scheduled day.
CGC testing with Paws Plus You can be done one of two ways: by completing our Beyond Basic Fundamentals class, or a la carte if you’ve done your training elsewhere. If you have not taken our Beyond Basic class, please contact us for your testing date. 810.214.3660
Dogs being trained as Therapy or Service Dogs will also find this class valuable. Dogs who are already Therapy or Service Dogs can keep their skills sharp and improve on them here.
